How is Shockwave Treatment performed?
After diagnosing a condition suitable for shockwave treatment, the procedure is usually carried out on an outpatient basis at our clinic. Only a sedation or short anesthesia is required. Depending on the underlying condition, the procedure takes 10-20 minutes.
The details of the subsequent resting and follow-up requirements should be discussed with the veterinarian. Typically, your animal will be ready to leave in 1 - 2 hours.
What are Shockwaves?
In human medicine, shockwave therapy has been used for over 25 years to treat a number of urologic and orthopedic conditions.
Shockwaves are high energy sound waves, which are transmitted to the affected body part. There, they trigger the body's natural repair mechanisms by stimulating immune-competent cells. Thus, a lasting healing response is achieved without any side-effects.
What results can be expected?
Most cases demonstrate very significant improvement within a week. Frequently, positive results are achieved in cases where conventional treatment methods have failed.  Often, a second shockwave treatment within two to three weeks improves the results further. Most importantly, it appears that the positive effects are lasting and require no further intervention.
