When an emergency occurs, there are many important answers about your animal that you can have ready for the veterinarian, such as:
Temperature
Heart Rate
Respiration Rate
Temperature - can be determined by taking a rectal temperature with a thermometer that can be purchased at any drug store.

Heart rate - is determined by counting the pulse for one minute.

Respiration rate - is the total number of breaths the animal takes in the period of one minute. This can be observed by watching the animal's sides or the nostrils.

More information about the procedures above and information about normal animal vital signs can be found in each animal category on this web site and also in our library. If you are uncertain about any of this information, or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us or stop by the clinic.
